What can I say to Siri?
PlateStack adds three Siri shortcuts. Each phrase has to include the app’s name, which is an Apple rule, so there is no bare “log a slice of pizza”.
-
Log food
“Hey Siri, log food in PlateStack.” Also “log a meal in PlateStack” and “PlateStack log food”. Siri asks what you ate, and you answer in your own words.
-
Log water
“Log water in PlateStack.” Also “add water in PlateStack”. It adds your own quick-add amount, so set one in the app first. Siri says what it added.
-
Log my usual
“Log my usual in PlateStack.” Also “log my saved food in PlateStack”. It logs your most-used saved food and reads back its name and calories.
How do I log a meal with Siri?
Siri needs the Shortcuts app installed on your iPhone. With it there, logging a meal is two sentences.
- Say “Hey Siri, log food in PlateStack.”
- When Siri asks “What did you eat?”, answer: “two eggs and toast with butter”.
- PlateStack opens, estimates the foods and portions, and logs them.
- On Home, the new entries are highlighted. Tap one to correct a portion, or delete it.
When does PlateStack stop and ask first?
A normal meal is logged straight away. Something odd is not. If the phrase comes back as more than four foods, a portion that is zero or unreadable, or a single item over 2,500 calories, PlateStack opens the confirm sheet instead so you look at the numbers before they count.
Either way the result is an estimate. A spoken meal has no weight on it, and the same words can mean a small plate or a big one. Fix what is off the way you would fix any entry.
What does Siri logging cost?
A food phrase is one AI credit: the estimate. In the app’s own voice button, PlateStack also has to turn your audio into text, which is a second credit. With Siri the phone has already done that, so it costs one. Water and “my usual” are certain, not estimated, so they cost nothing.
| Feature | Starter ($0) | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Siri food logging (iPhone) | Same 5 monthly AI credits | Included |
| Siri water and your usual saved food (iPhone) | Yes | Yes |
| Voice logging | 5 monthly AI credits shared across photo, label, and voice | Included |
Premium is $1.99 a month or $14.99 a year. The pricing page lists every feature on both tiers.
What leaves my phone?
Siri turns your speech into text. PlateStack receives that text, not audio, and sends it through our own server to Anthropic, which reads it into foods and portions. Water and “my usual” stay between Siri, the app, and your account.
Read the privacy policy for the full list, including how long entries are kept and how to delete them.
Is there an Android version?
Not through Siri. On Android, the Voice button in the food logging sheet lets you say what you ate, for 2 AI credits per entry. The food logging guide covers every way to log on both phones.
Common questions.
- Can I log food with Siri in PlateStack?
- On iPhone, yes. Say “Hey Siri, log food in PlateStack,” and when Siri asks what you ate, tell it. PlateStack estimates the food, logs it, and highlights the new entry on Home so you can change or delete it.
- Can I put the food in the phrase, like “log a slice of pizza”?
- No. Apple only lets an app’s Siri phrase hold fixed choices, not free text, so the phrase names PlateStack and Siri then asks what you ate.
- Does Siri logging cost AI credits?
- A food phrase uses 1 AI credit, because the estimate is an AI call. Siri does the listening, so there is no second credit for transcription. “Log water in PlateStack” and “Log my usual in PlateStack” use none.
- Is there a typed box where I describe a meal?
- No. The search field searches the food database. The only ways to describe a meal in words are by voice in the app, to Siri, or by dictation on the Apple Watch.
- Does it work on Android?
- No. Siri is an iPhone feature. On Android, the Voice button in the food logging sheet does the same job for 2 AI credits per entry.
