A Strong alternative that also logs your food.
PlateStack is a free lifting log with food, cardio, and habits in the same record, on iPhone and Android. Bring your Strong history with a CSV.
Free: unlimited food search, barcode scanning, and workout logging. No ads.
Every session, compared.
Volume, sets, and PRs against the last time.
Why look for a Strong alternative?
Strong is a lifting log, and its site says accounts are free forever. It does one job. People look elsewhere when they want that job done beside their meals, so a heavy day and the food around it sit in one place.
What does PlateStack do differently?
PlateStack logs the lift and the rest of the day. Weight, reps, and RIR on every set, warmup, working, and drop sets, supersets, templates, and a rest timer are free. So are food search, barcode scanning, and cardio.
-
A summary that compares
Each session shows volume, sets, and PRs against the last one.
-
Plans you can edit
Coach drafts a plan from your goals and equipment. Every exercise stays editable.
-
Strength balance
Push, pull, legs, and core sets against the previous range, plus a muscle map.
When is Strong still the better fit?
Plenty of lifters should stay put.
-
You want only a lifting log
A single-purpose app has nothing else to learn. PlateStack is built around the whole day.
-
Your history is the point
It moves over by CSV, but if you would rather not re-check three years of loads, do not move.
What does PlateStack cost?
The workout log is free with no trial clock. Premium is optional; the pricing page lists every limit.
| Feature | Starter ($0) | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Workout logging (sets, reps, weight, RIR) | Yes | Yes |
| Exercise library and custom exercises | Yes | Yes |
| Automatic PR detection | Yes | Yes |
| Import history from Strong, Hevy, or any CSV | Yes | Yes |

The pricing page lists every feature on both tiers.
How do I move my history?
Follow the import guide: export a CSV from Strong, pick pounds or kilograms, paste it into PlateStack, and check the preview.
Switching questions.
- Can I import my Strong history?
- Yes. Export your workouts from Strong as a CSV, then in PlateStack open Settings, then Import Workouts. Strong does not record whether weights are pounds or kilograms, so you choose, and the preview shows what it found before anything is saved.
- Is the workout log free?
- Yes. Sets, reps, weight, RIR, set types, supersets, templates, PRs, the rest timer, and import are free on Starter, with no ads.
- Does PlateStack only log workouts?
- No, and that is the difference. It logs food, cardio, body weight, and habits too. If you only want a lifting log, a dedicated one is simpler.
- Is PlateStack affiliated with Strong?
- No. PlateStack is an independent app made by StackForge Studios. Strong is a trademark of its owner.
