What's the difference between PlateStack Starter and Premium?
Starter is the useful free version: food logging, barcode scanning, macro tracking, workout logging, saved foods and meals, Daily Wins, streaks, basic reminders, core progress, and 5 monthly AI logging credits. Premium is the power-tool drawer: AI Coach, unlimited AI photo/label/voice logging, 7-day AI meal plans, Custom Habits, pre-window fasting reminders, long-range progress, weekly insights, and advanced Squad & League tools.
What is PlateStack?
PlateStack is the one app that does what most people duct-tape across five apps: nutrition tracking, workout logging, AI coaching, daily quests and streaks, progress, and Squad accountability. The core is free. Premium unlocks the heavier AI and planning tools.
Is PlateStack a calorie tracker?
Yes — and more. Calorie tracking is one of five ways to log food: AI photo scan, nutrition label scan, voice, barcode, or food search across FatSecret, USDA, Open Food Facts, and your saved/recent foods. PlateStack also tracks macros (protein, carbs, fat), workouts, body weight, body fat %, measurements, progress photos, and a daily score from S to F.
Does PlateStack track workouts?
Yes. PlateStack logs strength training (sets, reps, weight) with a 500+ exercise library and automatic personal-record detection, and cardio (duration, distance, calories). It includes a built-in rest timer and tracks volume and PR trends over time. Workout tracking is included on every tier — including free.
Does PlateStack use AI?
Yes, but it is useful AI, not magic-bean AI. Photo scan estimates calories and macros from a meal photo. The AI Coach, powered by Claude, answers with your profile, diet, streak, and recent training in context. The meal-plan generator builds a 7-day plan around your targets. Manual logging stays free.
Can PlateStack help with macros?
Yes. Set custom calorie and macro targets — or pick from six diet presets (Standard, Keto, Paleo, Vegan, Bulking, Cutting). Every food entry tallies against your goals. A live ring on the dashboard shows what's left for the day, and a daily score grades how the day landed.
Does PlateStack have meal planning?
Yes — through the AI 7-day meal plan generator. One tap and the AI Coach builds a week of meals around your calorie and macro targets, respecting your diet preset. You can review the plan, email it, and send ingredients to grocery. Meal planning is included with PlateStack Premium.
Does PlateStack have social accountability?
Yes — through Squads. Create or join a small invite-only group, share a 6-character code (PS-XXXXXX), and earn a Squad streak when at least 70% of your Squad logs activity each day. Cheers and daily-capped nudges keep accountability human, not noisy. Squads are included on every tier.
Is PlateStack free?
Yes. Starter is $0 and useful on purpose: nutrition logging, workout tracking, Daily Wins, food search, barcode scanning, daily quests, levels, streaks, achievements, saved foods and meals, basic reminders, core progress, and 5 monthly AI logging credits. Premium starts where the heavier tools start: Custom Habits, AI Coach, unlimited AI logging, and meal plans at $8.99/month or $49.99/year, with a 7-day free trial on Annual.
How do I delete my PlateStack account?
From inside the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. From outside the app: visit platestackapp.com/delete-account and follow the steps, or email [email protected] from the address tied to your account. All your data is permanently purged within 30 days.
Does the AI Coach replace a trainer or dietitian?
No. The AI Coach is a practical guidance tool, not a substitute for a qualified professional. It can help you understand your macros, suggest meal ideas around your targets, and offer progressive-overload guidance based on your logged lifts. It is not medical advice, dietary prescription, or clinical support. Always consult a qualified trainer, dietitian, or doctor for decisions that affect your health.
How does the 14-day referral program work?
Share your referral code or link from inside PlateStack. When a friend joins with it, they get 14 days of Premium and you get 14 days too. Successful referrals stack. Referral credits have no cash value, which is less exciting than cash but still pretty useful.
Are habits free in PlateStack?
Daily Wins are included free. PlateStack automatically tracks wins when you log a meal, complete a workout, hit your protein goal, stay on calories, or hit your water goal — no setup required. Custom Habits — the ones you create yourself, like taking vitamins, stretching, walking, or building a morning routine — are included with Premium.
What are Daily Wins?
Daily Wins are automatic check-ins PlateStack generates from your activity. Log a meal, complete a workout, hit your protein goal, stay on calories, drink your water — those are Daily Wins. They feed your daily score and streak without you managing a separate habit list.
What are Custom Habits?
Custom Habits are personal routines you create yourself — things like taking vitamins, stretching, walking 8,000 steps, reading 10 minutes, or keeping a sleep schedule. Custom Habits include reminders, history, and insights. They are part of PlateStack Premium.
Why are Custom Habits a Premium feature?
Daily Wins keep the free version genuinely useful without adding another thing to manage. Premium unlocks the personalized habit system for people who want to build their own routines, set custom reminders, and connect habits to their food, workouts, macros, and progress data.
What permissions does the app ask for?
Camera (for the barcode scanner, AI food scanning, and progress photos), microphone (only when you tap the mic to log by voice), notifications (only if you turn on reminders), and biometrics (only if you opt into Face ID or fingerprint sign-in). All optional except a network connection.
Does the app work offline?
You can browse recent logs and your local cache offline. Manual logging can be drafted where supported and synced when you reconnect. AI photo scanning, Coach chat, meal-plan generation, barcode lookup, and fresh food search need a connection.
How accurate is the AI food scan?
Honest answer: excellent for common dishes, weaker on niche or homemade ones. Always review the result before logging — the manual editor is one tap away. Treat it as a fast shortcut, not a guarantee. No calorie scanner is magic.
Can I cancel a subscription anytime?
Yes. Subscriptions are billed by the App Store or Google Play, so you cancel from your normal subscriptions screen. Access continues until the end of the paid period.
Is PlateStack medical advice?
No. PlateStack is a fitness and nutrition tracking app. Calorie estimates and AI Coach guidance are informational only. Always consult a qualified medical or nutritional professional before changing your diet or training program — especially if you have a medical condition.
